What Big Little Lies Has In Store This Season

This quiet family drama about friendship and abuse quickly took HBO audiences by storm when the first season aired. Based on the novel of the same name by Liane Moriarty, the show features an all-star cast with Shailene Woodley, Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Zoey Kravitz, and Laura Dern making up the core ensemble. The supporting cast is just as impressive but season 2 brings a Hollywood maven to the small screen for the first time: Meryl Streep.
The first season focused on the abusive relationship between Nicole Kidman’s character Celeste and her husband Perry played by Alexander Skarsgaard. The whole first season moved at a leisurely pace as the characters were introduced, each one flawed in their own way and all inevitably tied together by the act they both witness and in one case partake in. But this second season was a surprise as the book did not have a sequel so it has left audiences wondering with what is to come.

Meryl Streep
In the aftermath of Perry’s death, yes, spoiler alert. His mother, played by Streep comes to sleepy and extremely affluent Monterrey to help Celeste care for her twin boys. But it seems like Streep’s character is there less to help out then to find out how her son suddenly fell to his death at a school gala. Judging by the trailer and the first couple of episodes that have aired it seems like she’s bent on piecing together what happened to her boy and cannot believe that there was any evil in him.
Will The Truth Come Out?
This is the big question. We all know who actually pushed Perry but the mothers of Monterrey now known as the Monterrey 5 have banded together to protect the one who saved Celeste. But death even if it was in self-defense is a hard thing to cope with and it seems like the person who did it may actually feel the need to tell the truth which would jeopardize each character’s carefully sheltered life that they lead.

Wait And See
We know that we cannot wait to see what happens because the sleepy pace of the show and the focus on the interactions between the characters is quickly going to build to an intense ending. The question remains, will someone else die at the end of this season too?
