Did The Latest Season Of Stranger Things Live Up To The Hype?

The Netflix original Stranger Things became a fan favorite when it was first released in July of 2016. The unique mix of 1980s nostalgia from the clothes to the music to the many brands that showed up made viewers fall in love with this mind-bending alternate universe series. Plus, the cast itself which featured many newcomers from Eleven played by English actress Millie Bobby Brown to Canadian actor Finn Wolfhard offered some refreshing new faces for the audience to become obsessed with. However, the second season did not have that same ‘je ne sais quoi’ of the first season that created so many fans. Luckily, the third season finds itself firmly back in the same nostalgic era of 1985 with the gang now in their teenage years.

A New Addition
The addition of the character Robin in her sailor outfit alongside Joe Keery’s Steve ‘The Hair’ Harrington was particularly responsible for the success of this season. Whereas the Stranger Things gang has the usual faces in it, she provided some much needed female comic relief. She might look and sound pretty familiar though as you watch her onscreen and that is because she is descended from Hollywood royalty. Starting to ring any bells? She is the daughter of Ethan Hawke and Uma Thurman, Maya Hawke. She sounds almost identical to her very famous mother and her acting chops from her parents definitely shine through.

Comrades
Now, it would not be the mid-80s without the introduction of a Cold War-era subplot which is where the Russians come in. The Soviets in their efforts to reopen what should remain closed on American soil add the story we didn’t know we needed to the Stranger Things world. The Mind Flayer features very heavily throughout the season but we all know the Russians are not going to be easily defeated which means they’ll be back for season four. We don’t want to spoil the season for anyone but there is definitely some Game of Thrones-style moments and by that we mean deaths. However, not everything is as it seems in this 80s alternate universe vortex so whether or not certain characters have passed on for good nobody can say for sure. We’re hoping one very important character is going to return…
All you need to do is settle in with some good snacks and prepare to binge-watch for the next eight hours because once you start you will not be able to stop. Just try not to be too suspicious of any malls you enter after watching this season, we’re looking at you Starcourt.
